Moacyr R. Calhelha served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Office of Hon. Robert M. Morgenthau, District Attorney of New York County from 1979 to 1985.  Since leaving public service, Mr. Calhelha has been engaged in the private practice of law, as an associate and then as a principal, from 1990 through 2003, of Rider, Weiner, Frankel & Calhelha, P.C., in New Windsor, New York.  His primary areas of practice have included counseling and all forms of dispute resolution in connection with shareholder and partnership matters, employment law, real estate and construction law, and commercial contracts.

Education: Mr. Calhelha is a 1979 cum laude graduate of  New York Law School, where he was a member of the Law Review Editorial Board, and received American Jurisprudence awards in the study of Contracts and Civil Procedure.  He graduated from Syracuse University in 1970.

Court Admissions, Bar Registrations:  Mr. Calhelha is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association, and the Ameican Bar Association.  He was admitted to practice in New York in 1980, and in the United States District Courts of the Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts in 1985;  he is also admitted in the United States Court of Appeals, 2nd Circuit, and the United Staes Tax Court.

Associations:  Mr. Calhelha is actively involved in community affairs.  He presently serves as a member of the Boards of Directors of the Orange County Bar Association and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh, Inc., and previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Director of United Way of Orange County and the Hudson Valley District,  Boy Scouts of America.
